With their memorable, intensely sweet fragrance, Lilac shrubs are low maintenance, only requiring sunlight, well-drained fertile soil, and an annual pruning to maintain desired shape. Abundant flower clusters come in a wide variety of colors, ranging from pink to purple to white or yellow, and are wonderful in fresh bouquets. Taller Old Fashioned Common Lilac varieties such as 'Agin Court Beauty', 'Belle de Nancy' and 'Sensation' all offer fragrance and are terrific for a tall privacy hedge. Shorter more compact cultivars such as 'Korean' and 'Miss Kim' are wonderful for lining a driveway or for use near the foundation. 'Bloomerang' is relatively new to the market and boasts reblooming capabilities for color shows in both spring and fall.
